Asheville, NC, Lands a Major Global Spotlight: Hosting the 2026 G20 Finance Ministers Meeting
Big news just dropped for Western North Carolina. On February 19, 2026, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that Asheville will host key gatherings of the world’s top financial leaders as part of the United States’ 2026 G20 Finance Track. Finance ministers and central bank governors from the G20’s 19 member countries plus two international organizations will converge on the city from late August into early September.
My Take
Asheville has not looked it's best in recent years. I am referring to garbage along the sidewalks, under the bridges, and on the grass. I wonder if Asheville will be ready for the finance ministers from the G20 member countries, Central Bank Governors, Deputies, and their representatives. I hope so.
